Paleo Diet For Athletes

A proper diet, like the paleo diet for athletes, is about balance, variety, and the important nutrients for healthy maintenance and development. Of course, a good food plan must also offer delicious and tasty food because “taste is everything”! Otherwise, there’s the temptation to fall off the wagon.

There are plenty of diets that appeal to athletes; unfortunately many of them fail to meet the demanding needs of athletic bodies.

The paleo diet is the athlete’s answer for a variety of reasons.

  1. This approach to food gives an athlete plenty of energy without the crash and burn of fad diets, focusing instead on the eating habits of our human ancestors during the Paleolithic era. This diet is especially effective for active people, and the regimen of an athlete offers the perfect compliment to Paleo foods.
  2. Favorite foods that promote an athlete’s energy, strength, and endurance include leafy and root vegetables, mushrooms, and fruit. Vegetables provide a wide range of vitamins and minerals essential to an athlete’s development, and fruit does the same while offering natural sugars to boost serotonin levels. Perfect for an after-workout snack.
  3. Foods such as lean meats, seafood, eggs, seeds, and nuts all help an athlete build muscle on the Paleo diet. These sources of clean protein offer the building blocks for muscle growth. Exercise and athletic activity assures that these healthy sources are utilized as fat is burned and muscle grown and strengthened.
  4. This food plan includes an excellent array of foods for delicious nutrition, especially when training. Meals that are high in protein, relatively low in carbohydrates, and accompanied by water mean proper nutritional absorption. This high-quality input yields great results on the field, in the gym, and just walking down the street.

Foods To Avoid

Foods to avoid include grains, dairy products, and processed food like salt, artificial and refined sweeteners, and vegetable oils. These are no-go on the paleo diet as they didn’t play a part in the diets of our Paleolithic ancestors. Reducing and eliminating these foods also possesses the added benefit of helping cut down symptoms of medical issues like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and heart disease.

Athletes are wise in considering their athleticism holistically; understanding the needs of the body leads to better performance and improved overall well-being. The paleo diet for athletes gives the athlete a variety of natural foods to work with as precious fuel for the body. Utilizing this diet to the fullest, an athlete can impressively achieve whatever he sets out to.
